Mount Wilson Observatory is operated on behalf of the Carnegie Institution of Washington by the Mount Wilson Institute, a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation with a three-fold mission of:
  • fostering public appreciation of the historic cultural heritage of the Observatory
  • utilizing the Observatory's assets and landmark scientific legacy for educational purposes
  • preserving the Observatory for scientific research programs for which it is uniquely suited.
The Friends of Mount Wilson Observatory offers a variety of tax-deductible membership levels that allow you to provide charitable donations while enjoying benefits only available to FOMWO members. These benefits include a subscription to our quarterly publication Reflections, discounts on Mount Wilson merchandise, special events held exclusively for members, and much more.
A Message from Observatory Director Hal McAlister describing his strong ties to Mount Wilson is available here.
Your Support of Mount Wilson Observatory through a FOMWO membership is deeply appreciated and provides invaluable resources for fulfilling our mission and for preserving this treasure of American science for future generations.
