Minutes for the meeting of January 13, 2005
4:29pm - Member Kevin demands pizza, not satisfied with the treats provided.
4:31pm - Member John makes a mess with the popcorn.
4:32pm - Meeting starts.
4:33pm - Monthly events are discussed. See the main webpage for dates and times.
4:35pm - President Erika describes her fantasy of beckoning people to see the Sun through a telescope.
4:37pm - The Club telescope isn't done yet but is getting close. Member Kevin squared up all the edges, etc., with shiny new tools and will get the rest of the supplies needed to complete it. Finally.
4:38pm - The floor is opened for Astro Club Movie suggestions. Crickets sing.
4:39pm - After telling the Club they're not allowed to complain that the Astro Movie Committee isn't choosing good movies to pick from, a few suggestions are timidly put forth. Pitch Black/Chronicles of Riddick (Member Angela fans herself), 2001: A Space Odyssey, old sci fi movies, Star Wars.
If anyone has any movies they'd like to see with the Astro Club, please feel free to email President Erika or Secretary Ellyn. Suggestions are always welcome!
4:41pm - The next meeting will be Thursday, Feb. 3rd, 3:00 p.m. at 732 One Park Place.
4:42pm - Member John starts to demolish his rainbow of M&Ms.
4:44pm - Treasurer Angela makes her report. We still don't know how much money we're getting from the Student Activities Committee for the Fall04/Spring05 year (feel free to call them and complain) but we're doing okay for money. We have enough funds to cover the activities we're planning.
4:45pm - Speaking of money, dues are discussed. For returning members, dues are $5. For new members, dues are $10. This is because of a budget surpluss - we decided to have dues be $20/year, so the returning members, who paid $15 last semester, get a bit of a break.
Dues are due (ha!) by the next meeting, and can be given to any Astro Club officers.
4:47pm - Another PARI trip is in the works for Sat, Feb. 12th. Transportation and meals will be provided for Club members, and the possibility of staying at PARI overnight is open.
We might go back to PARI in May, which will probably be right after finals end, for those who enjoyed it in February and/or those who couldn't go.
If you didn't make it to last year's PARI trip, see the pictures from last semester from the link on the main Club page.
4:51pm - The Messier Marathon is this semester - we'll discuss it more at the February meeting.
4:53pm - We're going to try to go to the Coca-Colar Science Center in late March/early April. The Club will pay for transportation, meals, and the entrance price. More details to come.
4:54pm - We'd also like to go camping again, maybe just after the semester ends. More details to follow.
4:55pm - Meeting is adjourned.
Members in attendance: President Erika, VP Bryan, Treasurer Angela, Secretary Ellyn, Paramita, David, John McF., Kevin, Abby, Nilakshi, Dr. Barfuss
