Meeting Minutes
Minutes for the meeting of March 2, 2006

3:55 pm - Pizza arrives!

3:58 pm - Treasurer Bryan and Acting Secretary Ellyn bore everyone with a discussion about disc golf.

4:01 pm - Meeting begins.

4:02 pm - A debate ensues on the topic of "soda" vs. "cola" vs. "coke" vs. "soft drink" vs. "pop" nomenclature.

4:03 pm - Down to business. Monthly events are discussed - see the main webpage for dates and times. The Sun is boring so we were going to cancel that event but Member Kevin made the good point that students don't care if there are sunspots or not, so we'll go ahead with it.

4:06 pm - Nighttime observing needs better attendance!

4:09 pm - The Club telescope needs to be finished. Member Kevin will research how to best mount the secondary mirror.

4:10 pm - The Messier Marathon is discussed. We'll try for March 25th but if it looks like it's going to be cloudy, we'll go for the Friday beforehand. If both nights are cloudy, we'll try for Sunday. Acting Secretary Ellyn giggles at the mention of "Deer Lick Park".

4:15 pm - We'll continue our Cosmos exploration with our good friend Carl for the Astro Movie this month. Episodes 3 and 4 to come.

4:16 pm - There's a talk at Northside Baptist Church on Sunday, March 12, 7:00 p.m. by Dr. Charles Liu on A Brief History of the Universe: Understanding Its Mysteries, if you're interested. The address is 3100 Northside Drive, N.W. Apparently a reception follows the program. For more information, call Carolyn Scott at 404-237-8621.

4:18 pm - Sadly, it looks doubtful that we'll be going back to PARI. They're trying to become more efficient by having people there who know what they're doing (not us), having people work during the week, and reducing the number of open weekends. Bummer.

4:19 pm - President Erika will create a website to vote on which month/weekend will work best for you for the trip to the US Space and Rocketry Center in Huntsville, AL. Look for an email with more info on that.

4:21 pm - At the next meeting, VP Jeff is going to tell us more about the Astronomical League, which he says will impress the socks off all of us.

4:22 pm - The Club t-shirts were discussed. Member Angela suggested getting a more fitted style in addition to the more traditional boxy style. President Erika and Acting Secretary Ellyn seconded the idea. The T-Shirt Committee, comprised of Treasurer Bryan, will look into it. He'll tell us more about prices, styles, colors, etc., at the next meeting.

4:26 pm - Club buttons were also discussed, including size preferences. The Buttons Committee, made up of VP Jeff, will tell us more about that as well.

4:27 pm - The Treasurer's Report: "I haven't balanced the cashbox."

4:28 pm - Meeting done. More pizza was consumed.

In attendance: Prez Erika, VP Jeff, Treasurer Bryan, Kevin, Angela, Ellyn, Paramita
