Meeting Minutes |
3:52 pm - Old Astro Club hands - Erika, Angela, Kevin, and Ellyn - arrive early and shoot the breeze for a while.
3:57 pm - Secretary Ellyn suggests Member Angela should show up hung over to Member Kevin's dissertation defense next week, as she defends the day before.
3:58 pm - VP Jeff shows up and informs us it's Carl Sagan's birthday. Member Angela comments, "Too bad he's dead", which just about sums it up.
4:00 pm - The value of lemon-flavored candy is debated.
4:03 pm - The meeting starts with a toast to Carl Sagan.
4:06 pm - Solar Observing is discussed. The Sun is still super-boring, but we have someone keeping an eye on it to see if it gets interesting. Night-time Observing this month will be replaced by the Messier 10k.
4:07 pm - Telescope Building will take place on Friday, December 1st (3:00 pm, 515 Kell).
4:09 pm - The next meeting time is set for January 17th, 2007 (2:30 pm, 732 One Park Place).
4:11 pm - Dues are due! If we don't use them this semester, they may be refunded. Drop them off with either Prez Erika or Secretary Ellyn.
4:12 pm - VP Jeff demands the Messier 10k. This weekend's weather is looking pretty bad, so we'll plan for next weekend. Look for emails with specific day and time info when we know more about the weather.
4:15 pm - If we decide to do the Messier 10k on 11/18, Member Rob has invited the Astro Club to join the Emory students and Atlanta Astronomy Club in going to the Charlie Elliott Wildlife Preserve. The 18th is also the peak of the Leonids, so observing should be wicked cool.
4:22 pm - A Buying Committee for Messier 10k supplies is appointed - VP Jeff. He'll buy flashlight, clipboards, writing utensils, etc., to make the experience joyful and fulfilling for all.
4:25 pm - There will be no other Astro Club Night-time Observing this month, so if you're raring to go observing in Atlanta, feel free to join one of the lab instructors on a lab observing activity. Click here for a schedule of who will be observing when.
4:26 pm - We forgot to go to the Emory Observatory and Planetarium in October, so we rescheduled for November 28th. More details to follow, and many thanks to Member Rob.
4:27 pm - The meeting comes to an abrupt end as we discover someone's defending her thesis in our meeting room in three minutes.
In attendance: Prez Erika, VP Jeff, Kevin, Abby, Rob, Angela, Ellyn
