Operating the 2.1 meter Telescope
at Kitt Peak

I am doing spectroscopy, not imaging. Most things in operation are the same though.

If you want a description of the telescope first, go here.

The control room
This one is bigger than the Coudé Feed one (which is fortunate as there are two of us in here) and a little brighter and has some newer computers and has a microwave :) Yay!! Warm food for night lunch!!

Your fearless observer at her controls :)

This telescope is a bit more persnickety than the Feed (which is highly irritating). Buttons must be pushed in particular orders :(
Here is control panel A - it has buttons for oil pumps, opening the dome, opening the mirror cover, power to the movement motors, turning on exhaust/circulation fans, turning off the lights in the dome and various things.
Basically, in order to operate the telescope, any lights that are lit up need to be green!

I'M NOT DONE WITH THIS YET!!!

You can go to a description of the 2.1 meter scope here.
