Opening: - Plug in power cord to left as you enter dome and make sure power strip near telescope is on. - Open windows and dome slit for ventilation keeping in mind the slit limitation (the slit pulls up the horizon shutter up by default). The slit power cord can be pulled down from the dome a few feet to facilitate this. - OPTIONAL: Do the 'Berger twist' to accelerate temperature equilibrium (i.e. rotate dome 'round and 'round). - Turn on telescope and wait for initialization to complete. - Lower scope to remove dust cover(s) by bringing near E/W horizon or DEC of 90 degrees - Consult the blue or green (wih red binding) booklet for reference or additional instructions on the telescope. - 'Set the circles' with the following procedure based on the LX-200 manual: 1. Directly enter the catalog number of an object that you are familiar with in the sky by pressing the M, STAR, or CNGC key (see booklet or Appendix D. for a listing stars or of the 64,359 Object Library) and press the ENTER key again. e.g. to enter M57 hit the 9-key (notice the M right above it) and then the 5 and 7 keys. (STAR is the 6-key and NGC the 3-key) 2. Manually center the familiar object in the eyepiece of the telescope. 3. Press and hold the ENTER key until the display reads 'Coordinates matched'. 4. You have now synchronized the Object Library and the LX200 will correctly access every other object in the sky. 5. To maintain circle set, refrain from manually moving the telescope--always use the paddle. Circles may require additional callibration every hour or two due to the poor mounting. Simply reset with steps 2 and 3 above. - From the TELESCOPE menu turn on the FAN (and HIGH PRECISION if desired). This can be done first if there is a large temperature differential in the dome. - Enjoy your observation Closing: - Return slit to due SOUTH position and close slit. A checklist should be mounted due south. Just center on it. And don't worry about the slit power cord: the mounting strap stretches. - Replace the dust cover(s). - Return the telescope to +33.5 degrees DEC, 0 hours HA (zenith position). - Shut OFF telescope and UNPLUG POWER CORD. - Turn off lights. - Leave ;}
