The observing run consists of U-band photometric monitoring of the variable B-type star HD 37479 (V=6.66). Stars in the surrounding field will be used as comparisons. 2. I think the exposure times should be around 30-60 seconds when the star is directly overhead. Feel free to take exploratory exposures to ensure that the star does not saturate. The 2nd night (2009 Nov 27) is a minimum in the light curve of this star and its thus the most important night to get as much useful data as possible. 3. As the night progresses (and HD 37479 continues to rise), the exposure time may need to be shortened to prevent saturation. Likewise, later in the night (as HD 37479 starts to set), the exposure time may have to be lengthened. Ideally, in all target frames, the peak counts on THE COMPARISON STAR (the really really bright one!) should not be allowed to rise above 45,000, and likewise should not be allowed to drop below 20,000. 4. As mentioned in 3, the comparison star is brighter than our target star and thus it is extremely important that this star not saturate. 5. Use full chip mode, and one amplifier readout. Please avoid using the upper left amplifier (2,1). 6. Please adjust exposure times to allow the stars into the count ranges mentioned above. If the exposure time for the target frames is too small (i.e. less than 20s, try using a different ND filter and adjusting the exposure times accordingly). 7. Please center the image on the comparison star with coordinates given for the telescope below. 8. ***IMPORTANT*** We request that the U Tek Set #1 (3575/600) 3"x3" filter be used. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- NOTES FOR CALIBRATION FIELDS ----------------------------------------------------------------------- 1. Please obtain 10 bias frames and 10 U filter sky-flat frames at the start of each night. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- OBSERVING SEQUENCE ----------------------------------------------------------------------- TARGET HD 37479 PRIORITY 1 COORDINATES (star) 05 38 47.194 -02 35 40.54 (FK5 2000.0/2000.0 epoch) COORDINATES (telescope) 05 38 44.768 -02 36 00.25 (FK5 2000.0/2000.0 epoch) FINDER CHART http://shayol.bartol.udel.edu/~meo/HD37479FINDERCHART.pdf AIRMASS Less than 2.5 FILTER(S) U + ND 2.0 INTEGRATION(S) Peak Comparison counts between 20,000 and 45,000 TOTAL TIME Continuous monitoring NOTES Any conditions acceptable
