- Born in The Bronx, New York in 1953; son of Paul E. and Martha K. Wiita
- One sister, Christine, born in 1955
- Married Brinda Umberkoman in 1978
- We have two sons:
Arun P. Wiita (born in 1980) is currently in the Columbia University M.D./Ph.D program.
He received his A.B. in Chemistry from Princeton University in 2002 and his Ph.D. in Neurobiology and Behavior in 2007.
- Neil M. Wiita (born in 1985) received his bachelor's degree in architecture
from Princeton University in 2007 and is currently working for one of his ex-professors.
- Favorite sport: Squash
